Over the last six years, the Foundation has invested approximately Rs. 11.50 crores towards various socially relevant projects. The emphasis has always been on all-inclusive, participatory and transparent functioning. We are proud to note that the Foundation has not only gained the trust of the local community but also has been recognized by the State and Central Govt. for implementing various developmental programmes. The Foundation has now reiterated its commitment of being socially responsible by doubling its annual budget from the year 2008-09 onwards. This step has been taken with an optimism of reaching out more efficiently and with focused projects to all sections of the society. Such responsiveness and commitment by the mining industry in Goa is unique amongst all the States of India
The “Gram Nirman” programme launched in two Village Panchayats of Kirlapal-Dabhal and Mayem-Vaiguinim will be a turning point in the history of social investment in the state of Goa. With the local community as associates and support from the State Govt. and partner mining companies, the project will not only help in sculpting model villages but also be a model of tri-sector partnership for others to follows.
With new members joining in, our hands have been further strengthened. This support comes along with responsibility of leaving up to the expectations of the members as well as the community. The Foundation presently is at a crossroads of striving hard for excellence in the fields it is working in and also trying to expand its horizons to newer spheres.
It is at this important juncture that I have been bestowed with the responsibility of being the Chairman of the Foundation. I look forward not only to the support from my colleagues from the Governing Board and the Executive Committee but also the Govt. of Goa, Local Bodies like Panchayats and the surrounding community in the mining belts of Goa in carving a road-map for the speedy progress of all socially relevant projects of the Foundation. Let us all commit ourselves to do our bit for the Society, which we live in.
